General Maintenance Technician

Northlake Steel is in need of a second shift (3:30pm to 12am) general maintenance technician.
Maintenance technicians keep our metalworking machines and material handling equipment in good working order. We are looking for someone with good attention to detail and safety standards. On-the-job training is provided for this position, but at least 2 years’ experience of general/industrial maintenance experience is required. We have a current maintenance team of 5 so being a team player is essential since all tasks will require collaboration.

Job Requirements:
• Minimum of 2 years of general maintenance experience.
• Experience in basic troubleshooting of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical systems.
• Basic knowledge of metalworking equipment.
• Capable of demonstrating appropriate skill level in:

  1. Welding and cutting.
  2. Hydraulics.
  3. Reading blue prints, drawings, electrical schematics, repair manuals.
  4. Basic electrical/electronic components.
  5. Operation of power tools, air and electric, including tooling.
  6. Use of material handling equipment, i.e., overhead cranes, forklift trucks, man lifts, etc.

• Must be familiar with safety procedures, including OSHA guidelines such as:

  1. Lockout/Tagout,
  2. Fall Protection,
  3. Hazardous Materials,
  4. Personal Protective Equipment
  5. Safety in Confined Spaces.
    • Basic knowledge of preventive maintenance protocols.
    • Good communications skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Personal Requirements:
• Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen & background check.
• High school degree or equivalent preferred.
• Must possess basic mathematical skills and be able to perform calculations.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must submit proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• Must be in good physical health and possess physical stamina including ability to frequently bend, stoop, walk, and stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be willing/available to work overtime, including weekends and off shifts when necessary to meet service goals.
• Possess valid driver’s license.

Machine Operator

Accepting applicants with all levels of skill sets. Great opportunity for newly graduated community college students and career center students in a precision machining program.

2nd Shift Machine Operator 3:30p-12a


We are looking for a skilled Machine Operator to set up, maintain and operate machinery. You’ll ensure the interminable and efficient running of production. A great machine operator is reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards. On-the-job training is a good way to discover how to do the job better, so you should have willingness to learn and improve. Being a team player is essential since all tasks will require close collaboration with co-workers. The goal will be to ensure that production procedures will be carried on smoothly to maximize efficiency and profits.


Machines include:
Saw; Grinder; Lathe; Press Straightener; Roll Straightener; Draw Bench; Polisher; Induction Heating; Shot Blast Cabinet


Responsibilities:
• Set up machines (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start a production cycle
• Control and adjust machine settings (e.g. speed)
• Feed raw material or parts to semi-automated machines
• Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools
• Test operation of machines periodically
• Fix issues that might occur during the shift
• Check output to spot any machine-related mistakes or flaws
• Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
• Maintain activity logs

Skills:
• Proven experience as a machine operator
• Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools (caliper, micrometer etc.)
• Understanding of production procedures
• Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of protective gear)
• Attention to detail
• Teamwork and communication skills
• Physical stamina and strength
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree is a plus

Material Handler

We are looking for a Material Handler to move, package, load, and unload steel bars. You’ll ensure the interminable and efficient running of production. A great material handler is reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards. On-the-job training is a good way to discover how to do the job better, so you should have willingness to learn and improve. Being a team player is essential since all tasks will require close collaboration with co-workers. The goal will be to ensure that production procedures will be carried on smoothly to maximize efficiency and profits.


Responsibilities:
• locating the correct bundles of bars for each work order
• moving bars to different locations and machines for processing
• loading and unloading bars from trucks
• loading bars into cardboard tubes
• banding and/or boxing bars in preparation for shipping
• oiling bars to prevent rust
• filling out time tickets and work orders
• keeping work area clean and free of safety hazards
• other jobs assigned by supervisor
